Texas.Net MacOS 7.5-7.6x Setup

These instructions will serve to help you configure OS 7.5-7.6x and Open Transport. Please do not run the installer on the Texas.Net CD-ROM.

  1. After you have inserted the TexasNet CD into the drive, copy the following folders to your Hard Drive:
    • Open Transport Software
  2. After this is copied, please restart the computer with the Extensions OFF. To do this, hold down the shift key on your keyboard as the computer begins to start back up. Continue to do this until you see a message saying 'Extensions Disabled' or 'Extensions Off'.
  3. After the computer has started up, double click on your Hard Drive icon in the upper right corner.
  4. Find the folder named 'Open Transport Software' and double click it.
    • Change the view of this folder to 'by name' or 'by list'.
    • Double click on the 'Open Transport 1.1.1 Install' folder.
    • Double click on the 'Open Transport 1.1.1 Installer'.
  5. Click 'Continue'.
  6. Click 'Install'.
  7. Once Open Transport v1.1.1 has finished installing, you will be prompted to restart. Be sure to hold down the shift key on your keyboard as the computer begins to start back up. Continue to do this until you see a message saying 'Extensions Disabled' or 'Extensions Off'.
  8. After the computer has restarted, please perform the following steps:
    • Double Click on the Hard Drive icon in the upper right.
    • Double Click on the 'Open Transport Software' folder.
    • Double Click on the 'Open Transport 1.1.2 Install' folder.
    • Double Click on the 'Installer'.
  9. Click 'Continue' then 'Install'.
  10. Once the Open Transport v1.1.2 has finished installing, you will be prompted to restart your computer (again). Be sure to hold down the shift key on your keyboard as the computer begins to start back up. Continue to do this until you see a message saying 'Extensions Disabled' or 'Extensions Off'.
  11. After the computer has restarted, please perform the following steps:
    • Double Click on your Hard Drive icon in the upper right corner.
    • Double Click on the 'Open Transport Software' folder.
    • Double Click on the 'OT/PPP 1.0 Install' folder.
    • Double Click on the 'Installer'.
  12. Click 'Continue,' then click 'Install'.
  13. Once OT/PPP v1.0 has finished installing, you will be prompted to restart (yes, a third time!). Please do so, however you may now restart in the normal manner without turning off Extensions.

You have now manually installed Apple's Open Transport Networking Architecture. You will now need to configure it (a much shorter process).

  1. Once the computer has restarted, click on Apple Menu | Control Panels | TCP/IP. Enter the following settings:
    • Connect via: PPP
    • Configure using: PPP server
    • Name Server Address:
    • Please type the appropriate numbers for your city.
    • Primary DNS:
      • If you are dialing into our Austin, Georgetown, Dripping Springs, Houston, Spring, Dallas, or Fort Worth lines, type: 207.207.0.3
      • If you are dialing into our San Antonio, Boerne, Bandera, or New Braunfels lines, type: 206.127.0.3
    • Secondary DNS:
      • If you are dialing into our Austin, Georgetown, Dripping Springs, Houston, Spring, Dallas, or Fort Worth lines, type: 206.127.0.3
      • If you are dialing into our San Antonio, Boerne, Bandera, or New Braunfels lines, type: 207.207.0.3
    • (Additional) Search Domains: texas.net (in lowercase)
    • Any other fields should be left blank

  2. Close the TCP/IP Control Panel. Click Save to keep these settings.
  3. Go to your Control Panel, then Modem and verify (and change if necessary) the following settings:
    • Connect via: Modem Port (or other if applicable)
    • Modem: select your modem type. If you're not sure or need help, contact us at the support numbers listed on your Startup Kit
    • Close the Modem Control Panel. Click Save to keep these settings.
  4. Go to you Control Panel, then PPP and verify (and change if necessary) the following settings:
    • Registered User should be selected.
    • Name: mylogin (where mylogin is your login name exactly as it appears on your startup kit)
    • Password: your password as it appears on your startup kit. Watch for 'L's that look like '1's (ones) and 'O's that look like '0's (zeros). Usually, your initial Texas.Net password will not contain any ones or zeros. Also, check to be sure that you are typing capital and lower-case letters appropriately.
    • Number: the appropriate dialup number for your city, found on the first page of your startup kit.
If you have already installed a Web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) you can click 'Connect' to go online, and then open your browser to surf! Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator can both be found on the Texas.Net CD.

You can double click the 'Install' Icon on the CD to install Internet Explorer 4.01. Happy Surfing!
